Rick Owens, born Richard Saturnino Owens on November 18, 1962, in Porterville, California, is an American fashion designer and one of the most influential figures in the contemporary fashion industry. Raised in a conservative and religious household, Owens discovered his passion for creativity and design at a young age. He attended Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles but dropped out after two years to pursue a career in fashion.

In 1994, Rick Owens moved to Paris, France, where he founded his eponymous fashion label, “Rick Owens.” His unique and innovative approach to design quickly garnered attention from the fashion community, and he gained international recognition for his avant-garde creations. Rick Owens’ clothes are often described post-apocalyptic, yet glamorous. He references subcultures like goth and grunge, but he also did an infamous street wear inspired collection in 2014 with step teams dancing on the runway.

Together with his wife, business partner and muse Michèle Lamy, Rick Owens is expanding his empire, launching DRK SHDW, Lilies and designing brutalist interior pieces. Rick Owens is most known for his sharp cut leather jackets with ultra long tight sleeves. It was one of these statement pieces that instantly launched Owens, when Kate Moss wore it in French Vogue.
